Job Description: The CMF Designer III is responsible for the development and implementation of Color, Material and Finish (CMF) activities for Mazda Design America (MDA), as well as promoting the design values of Mazda Corporate Japan (MC) to maintain continuity within the Mazda brand. This position provides comprehensive color and material concepts for various vehicle programs, ranging from highly advanced to production. Based on robust and comprehensive experience in this field, this individual is responsible for developing creative and, at times, complex design solutions while addressing production feasibility. The CMF Designer III is responsible for coordinating activities, schedules, and maintains communication with other departments and outside vendors. Additionally, this role will establish and maintain a professional and creative atmosphere within CMF and the design studio. Concept Creation and Delivery - 60% Create and present initial vehicle CMF theme proposals to MDA management and design team. Initiate, develop, and manage CMF projects in both 2D & 3D, working closely with Fabrication team and suppliers to ensure high quality output for both interior and exterior CMF Design proposals. Propose unique & innovative CMF concepts to MC Design that predict and represent North America market trends. Lead the CMF design strategic direction from North American customer point of view. Support R&D team at Mazda Toyota Manufacturing (MTM) plant for seamless integration of CMF design proposals and solutions. Support Accessories Design team in both proposing and implementing CMF design solutions. Support production teams in implementing any and all CMF design proposals with necessary suppliers and vendors. Lead material development with suppliers to meet all program, cost, and timing target's needs. Collaborate with Interior and Exterior Design team members to develop innovative CMF solutions for vehicle programs (both production and advanced). Collaborate and integrate with Brand Style team to ensure seamless consistency between Brand and CMF design. Support Brand Style on material choice and development for spatial brand spaces (dealer, event, reveal, etc.) Work hands on with visualization software /tools to realize 2D and 3D proposals. Cross-Functional Brand Alignment - 25% Represent MNAO CMF team and the external industry when communicating CMF Design Trends. Guide external agencies and partners to understand CMF design strategy and vision. Propose CMF design strategy during preliminary vehicle concept development and product positioning with Product Planning, Marketing and Engineering, to gain alignment for all consignment projects. Negotiate with external and third parties to ensure CMF design integrity as needed. Work directly with internal and external vendors on executing CMF portion of 3D model builds. Support MC design direction to realize North American Market agreement for production vehicle designs with MNAO Vehicle Line Managers. Support MNAO VLM's (Vehicle Line Manager) to establish grade structure strategies for vehicle programs. Research and Trend Analysis - 15% Conduct thorough research at trade shows and trend websites to identify opportunities for advanced material applications based on consumer trends and insights. Seek new suppliers and partnerships, coordinate site visits and presentations for design and product teams. Ensure suppliers adhere to our standards and requirements regarding color, quality, and specifications. Qualifications and Other Requirements: Education (Minimum): Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design or related discipline, or equivalent combination of education, training and/or work experience required. Experience: Minimum seven (7) years' Color and Materials Design experience or equivalent level of expertise. Experience working directly with and contributing to a creative brand team a plus. Experience in developing digital material representation using various software is a plus. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Ability to visually express CMF concepts & ideas with 2D presentation materials utilizing Adobe Creative Suite Programs (Photoshop, PowerPoint, In Design, etc.) Ability to conduct research and analyze market trends, competitive trends, and customer trends. Excellent communication skills in both verbal and written to be able to interpret and convey design/CMF concepts to a diverse audience. Excellent interpersonal skills to build and maintain professional relationships. Ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects and tasks in a timely manner. General knowledge of automotive design development. General market knowledge of competitive automobiles. Advanced knowledge of computer applications and software skills (i.e., Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Photoshop). Ability to work both autonomously and effectively within a diverse, multicultural setting Knowledge and understanding of both Japanese and US cultures is essential for effective cross-cultural communication and collaboration. Moderate to advanced knowledge of VRED, Unreal, or similar rendering software is a plus. Travel Quarterly Pay Range: $91,400.00-$139,400.00 Salary to be determined by education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.
