Agency Description The Philadelphia Department of Prisons (PDP) provides a secure correctional environment to detained people accused or convicted of illegal acts. The PDP operates four facilities to prepare incarcerated people for successful re-entry after their release. We also offer the following programs and services: Job training Educational services Parenting classes Substance abuse services Behavioral health therapy Counseling, individual and group therapy Job Description This is correctional management work at the Deputy Commissioner level, directing and coordinating programs responsible for the Restorative and Transitional Service Programs. Supervise a major segment of the Department of Prisons and maintain contact with other city officials and court and criminal justice system agency representatives to ensure interagency cooperation in coordinating program development and implementation and resolving common problems. This position reports directly to the Prisons Commissioner. Essential Functions The Deputy directs a large social services staff that provides various ongoing social services to incarcerated individuals. Responsible for directing the development and implementation of programs designed to encourage the successful reintegration of offenders into the community. Develop an analytical, operational plan for the social services function to guide activities, including mission, goals, and objectives. Confers with subordinate supervisors and managers on social service activities and problems and reviews departmental policies. Function as a liaison between the Prisons, court, law enforcement, city departments, and community agencies. Competencies, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Excellent management and leadership ability. Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Organized with attention to detail. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software. Qualifications A master's degree in Criminal Justice, Psychology, Political Science, Sociology, Social Work, Education, or a related field.Fifteen years of experience in Social Services, Counseling, and Treatment at Local, State, or Federal agencies.
