Title: Data Analyst Company: Democratic Attorneys General Association, Inc. Location: Washington, DC Reports To: Analytics & Technology Director Salary Range: $60,000-$75,000 Purpose: The Democratic Attorneys General Association (DAGA) is seeking a Data Analyst to join the Data team at DAGA. The Data team works to support Democratic Attorneys General and AG candidates throughout the country with polling, analytics on past electorates and turnout scenarios, other quantitative and qualitative electoral research, and guidance on voter contact universes. The Data Analyst will report to the Analytics & Technology Director at DAGA and work collaboratively with all members of the Data team to execute ongoing data projects and expand the scope of data offerings from the Data team. Examples of the kinds of questions the Data Analyst will help to answer at DAGA: What voters showed up to vote in 2022 that we didn't expect to show up? What voters stayed home on EDay 2022 that we expected to turn out? What do we expect the 2024 electorate to look like in XYZ state, given past turnout trends and electorate demographics? Looking at recent social listening, public and private polling, and focus group data, what issues do voters in XYZ state care about? How should the AG candidate in XYZ state message on public safety and criminal justice reform so that it's understandable to and will positively resonate with voters? What types of data about a state or AG campaign do other internal teams at DAGA need to make strategic decisions, and how can we synthesize that data into user-friendly dashboards or webpages? What data variables should we use to pick who to contact for a persuasion texting program focused on the issue of abortion? Primary Responsibilities: Conduct research on past election results, past electorate demographics and current political issues as relevant for ongoing polling, modeling and data analysis projects Assist with the execution of statewide and national polling projects, including survey drafting, sampling, weighting, and topline and crosstabs creation Structure and design data visualizations to communicate data to internal stakeholders, campaigns and strategic partners Draft memos and presentations reporting-out on focus group, polling and analysis results Build targeted voter contact universes off of demographic, modeled and previous contact data using SQL in a Google BigQuery database Assist with data-gathering and input for DAGA's in-house Wikipedia-style website on current races Other duties as needed, including assorted administrative duties contributing to data-related projects Qualifications: This is a fast-paced and fast changing work environment; the ability to organize and handle multiple projects, set priorities and meet deadlines is required Ability to handle confidential matters Excellent attention to detail Some prior experience (work or education, formal or self-directed are all acceptable) in data analysis required, preferably in SQL, R or Python Experience or willingness to learn data visualization programs such as QGIS or Google Looker Studio Willingness to learn new techniques and adapt to existing codebase Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite a plus, particularly Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Powerpoint Experience communicating orally and in writing about data analysis and visualizations, especially to non-technical stakeholders, a plus Previous experience with or exposure to political campaigns, voter research or voter targeting a plus Interest in public policy, politics and electioneering Humor, initiative, and openness to evolving responsibilities; there is plenty of potential for growth and advancement in this role on the Data Team, and we would love for a candidate to stay for many cycles and grow into a bigger role on the team Commitment to DAGA's mission to elect Democratic state attorneys general Application Requirements: Please submit resume and cover letter There will be a skills test in SQL during the interview process.
