The Opportunity Full-time Controller -Immediate Opening Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Controller oversees The Episcopal Academy's financial affairs, including but not limited to financial reporting, tax compliance, cost accounting, and business planning. The Controller plays a critical role in ensuring the financial health and stability of The Episcopal Academy and must be able to work effectively with the leadership team to achieve the school's mission and objectives. Who You Are Possess analytical skills and the ability to communicate decisions, procedures, and processes to a diverse group. Proven experience coordinating audit activities and managing reporting, budget development, and analysis, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, payroll, and operational accounting for a non-profit organization. Ability to prioritize and plan work activities, use time efficiently, and develop realistic action plans; ability to multitask, ability to juggle multiple projects accurately and efficiently while maintaining composure and flexibility. Ability to effectively communicate complex financial issues to constituents with varying levels of financial expertise. Possess strong interpersonal and intrapersonal leadership skills that include emotional intelligence and judiciousness. The ideal candidate will be able to work autonomously and without supervision. Meticulous attention to detail; demonstrates a consistent approach to process improvement and quality output. What You'll Do Establish, maintain, and communicate the school's internal control structure as it relates to the policies, procedures, and documentation of all accounting and financial reporting activities. Prepare reports that summarize and forecast school business activities and the financial position in areas of income and expenses, based on past, present, and expected performance to the school administration and the board committees. Direct the preparation of the annual $55M budget, reviews departmental budget proposals, and prepares necessary supporting documentation and justification. Review account reconciliations monthly. Responsible for the monthly general ledger, which includes managing daily accounting activities including accounts payable and payroll. Prepare monthly financial statements, including variance analyses. Ensure the timely, accurate payment of debt service. Prepare and monitor departmental budgets and forecasts. Facilitate budget performance with administrators and department heads. Create and communicate accounting policies to employees and ensure their compliance. Assist in managing procurement and purchasing processes, which include identifying and selecting vendors, negotiating contracts, and managing inventory and supplies. Works with the CFO to manage risk exposure, including identifying and mitigating financial risks and ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations. Ability to navigate Great Plains software. Attend some meetings outside of standard work hours. Perform other duties as assigned.
