Embarc Advisor's is hiring a client-facing Controller, where you will serve as an accounting thought and business partner to our clients, in addition to serving as an internal accounting advisor within Embarc. In this role, you will provide clients with deep expertise and guidance in the enhancement of their accounting functions and reporting systems. You will counsel and, at times, assume full responsibility for all facets of financial reporting, accounting month-end close operations, and accounting policies and procedures for clients across a multitude of industries. Detailed responsibilities include: Accounting and Reporting: Serves as an accounting business partner and trusted advisor, partnering closely with client leads to deliver robust financial reporting that enable our clients to meet their business objectives. Performs and/or leads client accounting teams in the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements, during month, quarter, and year-end accounting close cycles. Develops and implements the end-to-end accounting processes, including process design and continuous improvement, financial controls, GAAP, reporting requirements, auditing, and compliance for clients. Ensures all policies and procedures safeguard client assets and optimize operational efficiency. Conducts research on best practices that ensure optimal accounting operations that meet GAAP reporting standards. Analyzes risk and provides feedback and mitigation options to clients/client leads. Prepares and conducts trainings/presentations, responds to questions, and leads and/or supports client accounting transitions as required. Collaborates with tax advisors to facilitate state and federal tax filings. Ensures understanding of federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation. Provides recommendations to clients on how to adhere to these requirements and advises on necessary actions. Client Service: Develops and maintains strong relationships with clients and key stakeholders to ensure solid understanding of client needs and deliverables. Provides guidance and thought partnership to clients and key stakeholders. Presents deliverables, sharing key insights and recommendations. Highly responsive to client requests; works to proactively identify and anticipates client needs before receipt of client requests. Project Management: Supports and/ or leads the cross-functional management of client work from end to end for multiple clients; communicates recommendations and facilitates optimal outcomes with various stakeholders both with the client and internally within Embarc Advisors. May be required to manage client accounting teams to deliver project goals in a timely and resource-efficient manner. Effectively communicates across all stakeholders. Mitigates issues and drives optimal outcomes for all stakeholders, while meeting and/or exceeding client expectations. Quality Assurance: Consistently produces accurate and timely financial packages. Reviews, edits and ensures accuracy of client accounting teams' work. Identifies areas for improvement, foresees and mitigates quality issues prior to client/client lead receipt. Continuously works to identify opportunities for process improvement and automation within the accounting function. Ensures all work products meet Embarc's high standard of quality. Provides updates and presentations to senior client leadership and Embarc leadership to enable decision-making. Leadership : Operates as a trusted advisor and thought partner to Strategic Finance Directors within Embarc and also with key client stakeholders. Motivates, inspires, and actively coaches others to develop skills and solve issues. Fosters a culture of continuous improvement, high productivity, teamwork, and ownership. Oversees the building and effective scaling of Embarc's accounting function - streamlining and optimizing day to day operations and processes throughout Embarc and with clients. Through Embarc growth, may oversee an accounting team. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field, and 8+ years of accounting experience, which includes a mix of auditing and corporate experience. Preferably at a PE backed or public company. A combination of experience and education will be considered. The ideal candidate will have: Experience working in an auditing capacity with a Mid-size+ Accounting Firm. Experience scaling accounting functions for small to medium business. Experience leading a company through a financial audit. Experience implementing accounting systems for a scaling business. Strong knowledge of GAAP, and best practices for internal controls. Proven ability to conduct accounting standards/best practice research and summarize findings. Demonstrated ability to translate a company's operational results and decisions into accurate accounting records. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of QuickBooks & similar ERP systems (e.g. NetSuite, Sage, etc.). Demonstrated experience with equity accounting, preferably in a start-up through Series A-C environment. Proven ability to produce accurate accounting packages for businesses with multiple entities and eliminations. Demonstrated experience building and improving accounting processes and promoting quality. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent projects/clients while meeting deadlines and demanding quality execution. Superior analytical and decision-making skills with established understanding of business implication of decisions. Ability to seamlessly fluctuate work approach between being detail oriented/ hands-on and operating at the conceptual/strategic level. Exceptional interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. Capable of listening and obtaining clarification, changing approach or method to best fit the situation. Able to effectively partner with non-accounting people and interpret business actions into the appropriate accounting process. Proven track record of effectively influencing the actions and opinions of others at all levels of the organization. Able to effectively and respectfully challenge the status quo and drive change.
