Essential Duties and Responsibilities * Supervises the following accounting and reporting functions, including but not limited to: + General Ledger, including reporting, reconciliations, and sub-system reconciliations + Accounts Payable/Receivable oversight + Development and implementation of systems, sub-systems and procedures to maintain proper financial records + Bank subsidiary accounting as assigned by the Chief Financial Officer + Oversee supply ordering and inventory to ensure efficiency and cost control + Federal Reserve Bank (FRB), Federal Home Loan Bank (FHLB), and Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) reporting + Call Report preparation and other related regulatory reporting to the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC). * Assures accounting controls are maintained for the department and the Bank. * Provides insight and strategies to contribute to the overall profitability of the Bank; implements costs as agreed upon with the Chief Financial Officer. * Assists branches and departments in resolving accounting inquiries and providing staff support * Participates in various internal committees as assigned by the Chief Financial Officer. * Develops, tests and implements policies and procedures pertaining to the maintenance of accurate accounting records and report preparation. * Gathers and calculates data associated with the preparation of various routine and special financial statements and reports; reviews documentation for accuracy and completeness; highlights critical areas of the documentation for management’s review; and presents and explains reports and documentation to the Executive Leadership Team as required. * Prepares annual budget projections and allocations of income and expenses based on input from the Executive Leadership Team; reviews and monitors expenditures to ensure compliance with budgets; and notifies appropriate executive(s) in the event expenditures exceed budgets. * Reviews and approves invoices and checks to ensure the proper distribution of Bank funds. * Maintains advanced knowledge and awareness of financial industry status and trends. * Provides supervision and support to the department; monitors staff in daily tasks, operations, and quality control; ensures the organization of assigned areas of the department, coordinating available resources (e.g., staff, materials, etc.) for maximum results. * Assumes responsibility for special projects as assigned by the Chief Financial Officer; gathers data and prepares reports for the Executive Leadership Team, audits and other personnel. * Plays a positive role in the development and growth of assigned department staff through excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, along with strong delegation skills assuring a highly cross-trained staff. * Performs all job duties to ensure compliance with all Bank policies, procedures and processes, and all applicable state and federal banking laws, rules and regulations; adheres to Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) responsibilities that are specific to the position. Non-Essential Duties and Responsibilities * Assumes responsibility for various department functions in the absence of staff members or in overload situations. * Oversees miscellaneous special projects as needed. Supervisory Responsibilities Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Bank policies and applicable laws. Supervisory responsibilities include interviewing, selection of staff and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Plan for succession within the department and help staff members achieve their career goals within the department and the Bank. Qualifications Required Required education may be satisfied by experience and/or working knowledge. A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, or Finance with a minimum of 5 years of accounting and/or finance experience at a financial institution. Must possess extensive experience with software applications including spreadsheets, word processing, data base management, and accounting-related software products. Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite products – especially as it relates to Excel, and creating and formatting complex spreadsheets, charts, and pivot-tables. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions Sitting for extended periods of time, requires close visual acuity and the ability to work and operate computer applications and equipment including, copy machine, telephone, scanner, and other basic business equipment. Travel is required for training, conference attendance, and branch/department visitations (valid driver’s license required). The job is within the normal office environment range. Must have the ability to move, lift, or carry at least 50 pounds. Qualifications Preferred A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance is preferred, along with a minimum of 10 years of accounting experience in a banking environment. A CPA or MBA designation is preferred. Organizational, profit, and cost accounting experience is preferred.
