**This position is on-site and works from our office located in Amarillo, TX. General Description / Objective The Commodity Buyer primary function is to expand upon the current functions of our commodity department to better serve our customers while providing better efficiency to empower future growth. This position is tasked with commodity origination while providing vital analytics, information and managing daily business requirements. This position is responsible for origination, logistics, and collection of market information for the commodity department. This position reports to the Senior Commodity Buyer Roles and Tasks Originate grain and feed products for multiple feedyards, Truck and Rail. Contract and Schedule Truck Freight to meet feedyard schedules. Develop new relationships with elevators and producers Manage accounts and provide information to customers as needed. Provide market data to team for more informative decision making. Monitor daily business functions as well as progress of ongoing projects. Analyze local, domestic, and global industry information to make recommendations and decisions that maximize profitability and meet operational goals and objectives. In coordination with the Senior Commodity Buyer, implement a strategy to procure commodities and feed ingredients for utilization at company owned feedyard and Ethanol facilities. Collaborate with internal customers to provide superior service, market information, and the lowest cost options for feed ingredients and feed products. Plan, manage, and maintain inventory levels in conjunction with plant management to balance operational and financial objectives. Utilize market data and risk strategy to ensure hedged commodities are traded against optimum market conditions Collaborate with transportation to optimize logistics operations and costs. Establish and maintain strong relationships with a reliable and effective base of qualified suppliers. Effectively resolve supplier pricing, quality and/or delivery issues; advising management of market conditions and supply risk. Work with Senior Commodity Buyer and Friona Management to identify, develop, and implement continuous improvement initiatives. Bill Shuttle Rail units, Trace Rail units to meet Ethanol schedule. Responsible for maintaining accurate grain accounting records and reports. Profile / Professional Competencies Education Requirements : Bachelor's Degree in Agricultural Business, Economics, Merchandizing, or equivalent experience Minimum of 2-5 years’ experience in origination and inventory management Minimum Experience Required : Strong analytical skills and overall computer skills. Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Ability to work well in a team environment and independently with little supervision at times. Experience in customer relations.
