The Specialist assists operational leaders in enhancing their policies and standard operating procedures across the continuum of care. Supports the Nursing and Patient Care Services education programs by performing quality assurance of practice against policies. The Specialist assists the Program Manager of Clinical Regulatory and Policy Management with the operational functions of the program. The role assists the Manager of Nursing Quality in the implementation of evidence-based practices affecting nursing practice and with the Executive Director of Nursing Practice for Outpatient sites. Assists in the development of education and training. Partners with nurse leadership, nursing staff, providers, families, and caregivers to review incidents that require a need for policy development in order to maintain safe, timely, effective, efficient, equitable and patient-centered care. Roles and Responsibilities: Situational Leadership: Knows, understands, incorporates, and demonstrates the Organization's Mission, Vision, and Values in behaviors, practices, and decisions. Project Management/Change Management: The Policy Specialist will be essential in assisting in the execution of policy implementation alongside operational leaders and ensuring that policies are integrated effectively (i.e. - committee reporting, workflow development, education, etc.) Regulatory/Accreditation : Identify, assess, and assist in the development of policies that enable the organization to mitigate regulatory risks and address gaps in practice. The Specialist will be the liaison for all operational leaders to DOH visits or accreditation surveys and will work with Staff Development and Nursing Education to ensure all relevant staff members have signed off policies. Record Keeping: Supports the Regulatory and Policy Management committees that support the program by ensuring that record keeping and minutes are following the appropriate chains of custody for reporting. Performance Monitoring : Monitor and report on the progress of policy management. Team Leadership : Provide guidance and support to operational leaders on development of policies and practice. The Specialist facilitates workgroups and is comfortable leading interdisciplinary teams in achieving consensus. Training and Development : Identify training needs and opportunities for staff to enhance their understanding and skills associated with policies. Required Skills and Experience: Education: Licensed Practicing Nurse (LPN), Registered Nurse (RN) or clinical experience (Lab, Pulmonary, etc.) preferred but not required. Education and experience may be considered interchangeable on a year-for-year basis. Experience: Minimum of 2 years working in a position where there was significant coordination as it pertains to policy management. Licensure : Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS) within 2 years of hire. Preferred Skills and Experience: Previous experience working with regulation, change management and policy management. Skills, Knowledge, & Abilities : Excellent relationship management • Strong written and oral communication skills• Critical thinking and creative problem solving • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple and sometimes competing priorities • Strong analytical skills and experience with data analysis, metrics, and reporting • Knowledge of quality management principles. Physical Requirements: Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally in carrying, lifting, pushing, pulling objects. Sitting most of the time, with walking and standing required only occasionally. Location and Travel Requirements: Work location: In-person/ Hybrid Travel: Required within the various CHS locations, including Cayuga Medical Associates Clinics.
