The International School of Portland, (Portland Oregon) Department: Faculty Reports to: Head of Early Childhood FLSA Status: Exempt FTE: 1.0 (Full Time) Effective start date: August 13, 2024 Duration: 10 months The International School of Portland (ISP) is an independent, coeducational, language immersion IB day school for 350 students, Pre-K to Grade 5. The school's mission is to inspire children to become global citizens through an inquiry-based, multilingual learning environment. Small classes and the IB curriculum help students acquire language fluency and cultural competence, encouraging lifelong learning. The program is taught primarily by native speakers from around the world. Located just south of downtown Portland, the close-knit campus with outdoor playgrounds attracts families from both sides of the river. Today, our school is actively recruiting for the position opening of Chinese Teacher Aide for Early Childhood. Ideally, this position will begin effective August 13, 2024 for the new 2024-2025 school term. Essential Functions A Teacher Aide ("Aide") shall have the duty and responsibility to meet the following standards and requirements: As the teacher's aide, you will understand and support the mission, philosophy, values, and teaching principles of The International School of Portland (ISP) and the PYP framework for Early Years education. You will assist the teacher and students with an inquiry-rich curriculum tailored to each student's developmental stage, building strong relationships. You will help children individually and in small groups, observing and recording their performance. You will learn and adhere to Oregon Child Care Division regulations and maintain the necessary EC license. You will be on campus during required ISP work hours, attend meetings and events, and conduct yourself professionally at all times. Additional duties may be assigned by the Head of Early Childhood or Head of School. Working Conditions/Physical Requirements During peak activity periods, this position may require working over 8 hours per day and/or 40 hours per week. It involves quickly traveling to multiple locations on the school campus, including up and down hills, lifting or carrying 40 pounds, navigating flights of stairs, standing and sitting for long durations, occasionally typing on a computer keyboard, and frequently reading information on a computer screen. The role also demands the physical capability to work with children ages three through twelve and the ability to travel occasionally to attend off-site events. Required Qualifications The ideal candidate will have 6 months to 3 years of experience working with Early Childhood or Elementary age children. They should demonstrate proficiency in written and spoken English and possess native-level fluency in the target language, with the ability to support teaching in that language. Preferred Qualifications The ideal candidate will have at least 1 year of professional teaching experience in a language immersion classroom, a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Teaching/Education, and certification for teaching the target language. Previous PYP experience or training is also preferred.
