Location: YMCA of the Suncoast Citrus School Age Programs Child Care Specialist Rate of pay: $15.00/hr. - $16.30/hr. Shift: Full-time position. Monday - Friday hours vary 6:30 am-9:30 am and 2:30 pm - 6:00 pm JOB SUMMARY: Supports the YMCA's promise to strengthen community by interacting with members in a positive and meaningful way. Members are defined as anyone with a current or potential relationship with the Y, such as children, parents, staff, volunteers, community, donors and guests. Responsible for day-to-day general administration of the programs and ensuring the site meets all YMCA, state and county licensing requirements. This position works with their supervisor to provide direction and leadership for the achievement of Association goals in accordance with the policies, procedures and standards established by the Board. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Administer and lead the total operation of School Age Program site. Create a nurturing and safe environment by reporting suspicious activity that may lead to child abuse or may violate the code of conduct. Ensure staff are following all policies and procedures and ensuring staff are facilitating engaging and age appropriate activities as well as keeping supplies organized, maintaining a clean facility and care for equipment. Ensure site meets all licensing requirements. Responsible for maintaining accurate records on each child, employee and volunteer. Responsible for collection of fees and reporting weekly balances. Understand and monitor the budget, communicate variances and exercise necessary expense controls. Responsible for effectively handling all emergency incidents and submitting proper documentation. Nurture children by designing lesson plans that include purposeful programming that develops social-emotional skills, fosters achievement, supports academic growth and provides enrichment. Engage in and support branch programs and activities. Educate members about the services the YMCA offers and further connect them to the YMCA. Recruit, hire, supervise and develop department staff and volunteers through use of Leadership Competency Model resources that create a culture of cause-driven leaders. Cultivate relationships by establishing a positive rapport with children, parents, volunteers, staff, school personnel and the community. Engage in school related committees such as the PTA or SAC. Support the strategic work of the YMCA by: A. Creating a culture of volunteerism by educating members about volunteer opportunities. B. Supporting a culture of philanthropy by telling your Y story to others and encouraging them to participate in YMCA fundraising efforts. C. Encourage members and celebrate their success in meeting their health and well-being goals. D. Nurture the potential of all youth by promoting meaningful programs and services. Upon hire, must complete Intro to the Y's Cause & Culture, Y's Way to Service & Engagement and I Hear You: Service with CARE. Within 90 days of hire, Principles of Youth Development training required. Within 6 months of hire, Introduction to S.A.F.E. training required. Within 90 days of completing MODS, Preventing Sexual Abuse Between Young Children, Youth Affirmations: Distinguishing Between Praise and Encouragement, Foundations of Listen First, and Engaging with Families trainings required. Education: Must have a high school diploma or equivalent. A minimum of six college credit hours in early childhood or education or Florida Child Care Professional Certificate required. A degree in a child-related field is preferred. Work Experience: Previous child care and supervisory or leadership experience required. Certificates/Licenses: Must have or be enrolled in state mandated trainings within 30 days of employment. Trainings must be complete within 12 months of employment. Florida Director Credential preferred. CPR/AED and First Aid required within first 90 days of employment. Must meet YMCA driving criteria. Lifeguard and Listen First certification preferred. Physical: Must be 21 years of age or older. Must be able to stand, remain outdoors and maintain continual physical endurance for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds, watch, listen and facilitate group activities. Mental: Must be mentally alert and be able to process and follow directions. Skills: Must be able to supervise, coach and manage staff. Must be able to supervise and instruct large groups of children. Knowledge of sports and children's programming preferred.
