BUILD RELIABILITY MANAGER, LAUNCH The Launch Site Build Reliability Manager will be the key advocate for build quality and mission assurance at the launch site by promoting efficient and reliable operational processes. The manager will build and manage a team of engineers and inspectors to partner with Flight Reliability, Launch Reliability, and Launch Operations teams at Space X to ensure mission success as Space X marches towards manned spaceflight and Mars. RESPONSIBILITIES: Build and mentor a team of engineers focused on ensuring build reliability during launch site processing and refurbishment. Develop individual team members by enabling opportunities suited to each individual that align with strategic goals of the Build & Flight Reliability and Launch organizations. Partner with associated reliability organizations (Launch and Flight Reliability) to determine high-risk processes and problems that need additional reliability analysis. Enable engineers to proactively implement improvements to these processes and ensure operational excellence. Maintain the feedback loop to drive hardware inputs that enable reliable and rapid launch cadences by using data to make the quality landscape transparent and drive prioritization of resolving the most impactful issues. Allocate Build Reliability Engineers to all launch site areas (launch pad/ground support equipment build and maintenance, F9/Dragon integration and maintenance) to ensure successful day-to-day operations via reviewing work instructions and issue tickets for reliability critical inputs. Ensure adequate and efficient coverage of Quality Inspectors to all operational areas; ensure inspector skills are adequately defined and developed. Influence and execute standard hangar/pad practices to create a culture of reliability. Including management of the training/verification of authorized overseers. Support internal and customer (e.g. AS9100/EELV/etc.) audits of launch organization, including preparation and resolution of findings. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in an engineering or science discipline Minimum of 2 years experience building and leading teams of engineers PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: Master’s degree in an engineering or science discipline Demonstrated delivery and technical project management of an engineering problem Manage and track multiple priorities while maintaining a focus towards common project goals Self-starter mindset to seek out solutions to technical problems with the local team along and extended Space X departments dealing with aspects of the vehicle and spacecraft design Experience working with flight hardware Experience hiring and conducting performance reviews Experience writing test plans and test procedures Ability to work well in a team environment Ability to communicate clearly and accurately with a wide range of people Ability to be diplomatic with a variety of individuals across the organizational infrastructure Problem solving and critical thinking skills ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Willingness to travel, potentially for extended periods of time Available to work extended hours, nights, and weekends when required by mission milestones Ability to pass Air Force background check for Cape Canaveral ITAR REQUIREMENTS: To conform to U. S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U. S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.
