The Counter Attendant is the primary guest point of contact for the counter. Counter Attendants ensure that excellent quality and superb service is enjoyed by all of our guests. The Barista is responsible for maintaining and operating the barista station up to Gjelina's Group standards. This includes delivering outstanding customer service, possessing a thorough knowledge of our coffee and tea offerings, and ensuring quality control across all site coffee and tea offerings. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Other duties may be assigned. Knowledge of all dishes on the menu, to be able to identify them and to know their ingredients Adhere to all health, safety, alcohol control and sanitation protocols Always provide prompt, attentive service. Greet/Thank all customers as they enter/exit the space. Takes guests orders in Point of Sale - "POS" Always suggests product alternatives to enhance guest food experience. Completes sales transactions in an accurate and timely manner Prepare espresso drinks to order Prepare drink orders in accordance with all recipes provided by Gjelina Management. Work with BOH to expedite orders in an orderly and timely manner Organize, clean, and maintain all areas of the counter. Prepare the floor at the opening and closing of each shift, stocking, cleaning, and preparing for service. Prepare stations at the opening and closing of each shift; stocking, cleaning, and preparing for service. Ensure all stations are equipped for service. Assist others with stations when needed. Maintain the station throughout the shift, keeping spaces clean and tidy. This includes wiping down cases and all surfaces and restocking throughout the day. Attend pre-shift meeting to find out the changes on the menu, 86s, and Chef's aesthetic for new dishes. Respond to any menu/drinks queries with knowledgeable answers. Deal with any service issues through your floor manager and communicate any unresolved issues to them at the end of the shift. Understand the right of way (guests, counter, and staff) Other duties as assigned by supervisor/manager The barista will consistently practice proper cleaning procedures and implement preventative maintenance measures for both espresso and brewing equipment. Continuously learn about our coffee beans, teas, and sourcing while also nurturing your own curiosity and expertise through in-house tastings, pairing, and training sessions. Ability to multitask in high-volume service Operate espresso machines and other equipment to make beverages according to established recipes and quality standards. Ensure cleanliness and organization of the coffee bar area, including restocking supplies and cleaning equipment. Running Hot Beverages to guests throughout the restaurant Perform other duties and responsibilities as required or requested Counter service Pouring barback QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Knowledge and use of kitchen forms/systems. High School education, diploma (or in the process), or GED preferred. Food Handler Certification - Food Handling & Sanitation Awareness, desired Must understand how to abide by the rules of the Department of Health related to Food Service. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ATTRIBUTES Must be able to stand, lift, bend, and walk for extended periods of time (8-12 hours) Must be able to climb sets of stairs repetitively, throughout a shift Must be able to move, pull, push, carry, or lift up to 50 pounds on occasion and 30 pounds Regularly Must be able to seize, grasp, turn, and hold objects with hands regularly and in frequent or repetitive motions Must be able to reach items at varying height levels (on shelves, on the ground, etc.) Occasionally kneel, bend, crouch, and climb as required Must be able to work in conditions of environmental exposure to cold, heat, water, and cleaning materials.
