Athletic Department Coordinator and Physical Education & Health Teacher Merion Mercy Academy, a leading independent Catholic girls' school outside Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, seeks an Athletic Department Coordinator and Physical Education & Health Teacher committed to working in a dynamic, student-centered program. The Athletic Department Coordinator will provide administrative support for the planning, direction, implementation, and supervision of the athletic and physical education program at Merion Mercy Academy. The Athletic Department Coordinator will promote interscholastic athletic activity that fosters skill development, sportsmanship, the understanding of sports, and an appreciation of being a team member. In addition, this individual will develop students' understanding of the importance of exercise to physical and mental well-being and their physical skills and abilities, strength, agility, poise, coordination, and teamwork. They will motivate students to work towards physical fitness, hygiene, and good health. The Coordinator should possess superior character and integrity, demonstrate strong interpersonal and leadership skills, and be committed to the growth of Merion Mercy, its athletic and physical education department, and its students. Reporting directly to the Director of Athletics, the Athletic Department Coordinator's specific tasks include but are not limited to: Foster the goals and standards of the Athletic Department in coordination with Merion Mercy Academy's mission and vision. Work with students, coaches, parents, and faculty as part of the Athletic Department. Assist with the organization and coordination of Athletic Department events. Facilitate game day operations: supervisor and assistant at home games during the school year (afternoons, nights, and weekends). Confirm, organize, and train game-day staff. Collect sports information and photographs to share with the Communications team. Update athletic websites with schedules, rosters, scores (MMA website, athletic Instagram, District 1, MaxPreps, Hudl, Arbiter, etc.), checking for accuracy. Coordinate team photos, individual headshots, and action shots with the vendors and Communications team each season. Assist with communications to student-athletes, parents, and families, as needed, in regards to athletic updates, cancellations, changes, etc. Provide support for the MMA coaching staff. Send regular updates with league, district, and state information. Assist with the onboarding process for new coaches. Organize professional development opportunities for the entire coaching staff. Review and approve PIAA and athletic department forms in conjunction with the Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC). Assist with uniform and equipment distribution and team inventories. Perform any other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics and Head of School. As the Physical Education/Health teacher, the specific tasks include but are not limited to: Design and document a curriculum for physical education and health courses. Develop and administer physical education classes consistent with school goals and objectives. Teach knowledge of, and develop skills and abilities in physical fitness, coordination and agility, exercise, and sports. Develop students' concepts in leadership, teamwork, responsibility and social skills; providing a safe and optimal learning environment; and appropriate feedback regarding student progress, expectations, and goals. Conduct ongoing assessment of student growth and progress in physical educational activities, and modify instructional methods to fit individual student's needs. Organize and maintain a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by MMA procedures and applicable laws. Ensure effective communication with students and parents. Ensure that student conduct conforms to the school's standards and policies, and establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom. Select and requisition appropriate instructional aids and other supplies and equipment and maintain inventory records. Inspect equipment and field areas used to ensure they are in good and safe working order. The position requirements are as follows: Bachelor's degree required. Previous experience working in athletics and/or as a health and PE educator. High school and college playing experience is an added benefit. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to function in a service and team-oriented environment. Ability to function independently, attend to detail, work under pressure and prioritize multiple projects. Possess superior character and integrity, demonstrate leadership skills, and be committed to the development of female student-athletes. Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to communicate and work collaboratively with a variety of individuals: student-athletes, coaches, faculty, staff, parents and alumnae. Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds. The selected candidate must pass all PA Department of Education background checks, obtain CPR/AED/First Aid certification, and complete the Archdiocese of Philadelphia Safe Environment training.
