Assistant Director, Office of Academic and Accessibility Resources - Academic Resources and English Acquisition (AREA) Chatham University is now welcoming applications for an Assistant Director, Office of Academic and Accessibility Resources (OAAR) - Academic Resources and English Acquisition (AREA). Responsible for all aspects of administering the academic support programs housed in the Office of Academic & Accessibility Resources. This includes peer tutoring, supplemental instruction (SI), English language development and general academic support at Chatham University. Assist with the planning and provision of assistive technology services and accommodations for students with diagnosed and documented disabilities at Chatham University. Duties and Responsibilities: OAAR (75%) Meet with students individually to develop academic success skills (ex. Time management; test-taking strategies, etc.) Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to bring disability awareness and training to students, staff, and faculty. Develop and implement effective strategies for identifying and recruiting qualified and diverse peer tutors, supplemental instructors, and student assistants. Develop, implement, and assess a training program for peer tutors, SI leaders and student assistants based on current best practices in the field. Assess provided services and resources; prepare and analyze data from assessments. Develop and implement on-line tutoring options based on best-practices. Teach courses to train students in academic support and tutoring. Supervise student workers - tutors, writing mentors, supplemental instructors. Assist with assistive technology training and use by students with disabilities. Assist with hardware and software applications to convert materials to alternative forms such as enlarged text, text-to-speech, and Braille. Assist with administering disability testing accommodations: Schedule exams, communicate with faculty, proctor, read/scribe, ensure confidential return of exams to instructors. Demonstrate commitment to equity, antiracism, and the ability to foster inclusive communities, with special sensitivity to the needs of a diverse student population. Demonstrate understanding of and strong commitment to excellent customer service and a student-centered experience. Work with students, faculty, student advisors, and staff to deliver collaborative initiatives, programmatic support, and offer guidance to enhance student performance and development. Support University and OAAR events through outreach (including social media platforms), planning, development, and participation. Represent OAAR at admissions and other University events and meetings as needed. Other duties as assigned. ELL (25%) Teach English for Academic Purposes (EAP) courses; Plans and delivers lessons in English language development. Provide English Language Learners with speaking and writing tutoring and support. Demonstrates knowledge of first and second language theory. Demonstrates knowledge of second language learning patterns and best practices in English language development. Evaluates English proficiency as well as individual learning styles and needs to plan an appropriate course of study for students. Promote services for English Language Learners within the University Assess services and resources related to English proficiency development; prepare and analyze data from assessments. Promote and conduct interactive and collaborative 'refresher' workshops on academic skills (reading, writing, listening [notetaking] speaking [group discussions and class PPT presentations] grammar, and vocabulary [vocab building, affixes, and roots, etc.] Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in education, psychology, or related field required. Experience and/or Certification in English language Development required. Master's degree in special education or related field preferred. Experience in a diverse Higher Education setting in areas of disability services and/or academic support services. Salary Range : $46,100-48,000. 40-hour work week.
