TOTAL PUBLIC MEMBERS: 11 METHOD OF APPOINTMENT: Appointed by the Mayor LENGTH OF APPOINTMENT: 3 years RESIDENCY: District residency is required PAID BOARD: No (all roles are voluntary) description The Advisory Committee to the Office of Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing (ACODDHH) shall advise the Mayor and the Director of the Office on Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing on issues related to deaf, deafblind, and hard of hearing residents of the District of Columbia. commission membership The Committee shall be comprised of the following eighteen (18) members, each of whom shall be appointed by the Mayor. Eleven (11) public members, including representation from: The deaf community; The deafblind community; The hard of hearing community; The late deafened community; The deaf interpreter community; and The deaf disabled community, representing individuals who have an additional psychosocial, intellectual, or physical disability other than being deaf. Please make it clear in your application if you are a member of these communities. The following seven (7) non-voting government members: The Director of the Mayor’s Office of Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing, or their designee; and One (1) employee representative from each of the following agencies: Department of Motor Vehicles; Department of Employment Services; Department of Disability Services; Department of Housing and Community Development; Department of Transportation; Metropolitan Police Department. qualifications for appointment Public members of the Advisory Committee shall be selected with the goal of representing the diversity of people and ideas within the District’s deaf, deafblind, and hard of hearing community and the diversity of intersectional identities within the deaf, deafblind, and hard of hearing community, including those who are marginalized and underserved. Each public member shall have been a resident of the District of Columbia for at least one (1) year prior to their initial appointment and shall remain a resident of the District of Columbia throughout their term of service on the Advisory Committee. At least one (1) public member of the Advisory Committee shall be appointed from each of the eight (8) wards of the District of Columbia. time commitment The Advisory Committee shall meet once per quarter, or more frequently as determined by the Chairperson of the Advisory Committee or the Director of the Mayor’s Office of Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing. The Mayor shall appoint each public member of the Advisory Committee to a three (3)-year term; except, of the first appointed members, four (4) shall be appointed to two (2)-year terms, and three (3) shall be appointed to one (1) year terms. A public member may be appointed to no more than two (2) consecutive full terms.
