General Description Under the direction of the Welding Supervisor, the 2nd Shift Weld lead is responsible for operating welding equipment to build high quality parts, subassemblies, and finished product in a manufacturing environment. The weld lead will also assist in quality checks, fitment/ weld issues, and act as a liaison between the weld department and engineering. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Create a team environment by actively and effectively communicating with all team members, fostering ownership and accountability within the area of responsibility and throughout the facility while visibly demonstrating the core values of BCT. Serves as a positive role model in the workplace and works in teams to accomplish overall plant goals regarding safety, efficiency, quality, and customer satisfaction Mentor, train and motivate team members on each job function ensuring individual and group productivity. Distribute work to welders at start of shift or as necessary. Responsible for the quality of finished products produced through proper administration of the company's Quality Assurance Program within area of responsibility. Promptly notifies management of any observed quality issues regardless of area produced. Examines weld for bead size and other specifications and performs a variety of quality control inspections on products, materials, components, and parts at various stages to ensure compliance with quality and reliability standards. Continually foster and support a continuous improvement environment. Immediately respond to problems within area of responsibility and take a lead role in problem solving activities to reduce or eliminate reoccurrence. Produces parts per part print and labor standards to achieve production goals. Repair bad welds, fix broken or cracked objects, fill holes and build up metal parts. Maintains a clean, organized work area to support 6S initiative, personal and environment safety goals, and accomplish quality production. Participates in cross-training throughout welding department and demonstrates an interest and flexibility in learning and working with others. Communicates with co-workers to maintain required production line flow. Helps drive and support BCT's Culture and Core Values Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Ability to interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals. Proven leadership, verbal communication, and interpersonal skills Ability to read measurement devices such as tape measure, combination square, carpenters square, T square, angle finder, level, etc. Ability to read and understand work orders and detailed blueprints. Ability to rig larger weldments for lifting and rotating. Ability to operate a forklift. Education and/or Experience High School Diploma or equivalent. Minimum of 5 years of experience welding in a fast-paced manufacturing environment or equivalent. Work Environment This job operates in a fast-paced factory environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, UV light, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is often loud enough to require hearing protection. BCT is hiring!
